Operational Safeguarding & Support

This service undertakes assessments of risk arising from the referrals received from other agencies, neighbours, etc in relation to children living in the community.

There are three contact and referral points: West Middlesex Hospital team, Intake Team East and Intake Team West. They undertake child protection investigation, initial child protection conferences, make emergency arrangements for children at risk of significant harm and initiate care proceedings. This is all statutory work.

The three other teams in this service area are the Safeguarding & Support Teams – East and West. These teams are responsible for safeguarding and supporting children in need and for promoting their welfare. Their work is predominantly acute child protection. They manage some court cases (early stage) and undertake all the activities associated with children subject to a protection plan or a child in need plan i.e. when the multi-agency view is that a child is at risk of significant harm without the provision of services
